Hello, friend! I’m Makayla.
This photo accurately describes my current every day. Somewhat blurry, always moving towards something, with a child close behind. I’m the founder, creator, seamstress, content manager (and more) of Huckleberry Bonnets Co. As a wife and mother, I love challenging myself to try new things and change the status quo.
My motto has been to change one thing at a time and make it a habit. Starting with only purchasing ethical fashion has slowly evolved into a lifestyle of sustainability. Whether I’m making bread or reading to my daughter, it’s the little things that all add up to create a joyful day for me.
I’d love to challenge you: if you want to do something new that brings you joy, but keep second-guessing, just try it! I would never have expected myself to do anything more than memorize Pride and Prejudice’s screenplay verbatim… yet here I am handmaking bonnets, digital products, and original design print-on-demand clothing from my home for you.
Let’s get to the good stuff! Here’s why you’ll love Huckleberry and our mission.
Always handmade, always sustainable,
always gives back
Huckleberry sustainably creates bonnets and digital prints that support children and mamas in their adventures, creativity, and natural style. Our print-on-demand clothing is organic, fulfilled from North American factories, and promotes slow living, honoring motherhood, and a life well-lived.
We believe clothing should be consumed less, worn longer, and thoughtfully designed with a conscious, biodegradable end-of-life solution. That’s why our bonnets and in-house-made clothing collections are made with rescued, vintage, or OEKO-Tex 100 fabrics.
Our products encourage the wild exploration of environments as simple as our homes and as endless as the outdoors.
Huckleberry is dedicated to creating a positive impact with every sale which is why 2% of all direct sales are donated to transparent charities working to fix the world travesties of clean water and child sex trafficking.
Our Process
We don’t do things at the same speed as large companies around here, so expect to see occasional limited-time collections of handmade bonnets and clothing, digital prints and guides available year-round, and print-on-demand clothing that promotes simple things with original designs.
